Profile
After completing my undergraduate studies in Macedonia I came to Newcastle, Australia in 1996 to undertake my PhD. As a PhD student and young researcher I joined the BHP research laboratories where I was a member of the pyrometallurgy research team exposed to the industrial challenges of energy conversion and minerals processing. Before joining Macquarie University in 2003 I worked as a research associate and laboratory manager at the University of Newcastle.
Over the last ten years I have developed interests in energy efficiency and the reduction of emissions through innovative, energy efficient and greenhouse neutral technologies. I have managed to establish close links with several primary industries leading to successful joint projects in the field of energy and sustainability. I have recently established a research laboratory for environmental and thermal processing funded in collaboration with the Rio Tinto Group. The primary focus of this collaboration is to study energy requirements and the potential to increase energy efficiency in the minerals processing industry.

- Energy and environment: renewable energy; biomass technology; waste to energy conversion; trace elements from energy utilisation
- Sustainable energy conversion: coal and biomass utilisation; biomass to bio-oil and bio-gas conversion; combustion; pyrolysis; ironmaking; cokemaking; energy efficiency
- Thermochemical analysis and kinetics of reacting and decomposing processes.
